Desiree works as a paraprofessional in ECE and second grade. She has been with the Izzi B family since the fall of 2023. While attending the University of Colorado in Boulder, she studied Italian, but when an opportunity arose to study in Israel for a year, she packed her bags. She studied the Arab, Israel conflict, learning Hebrew and a little Arabic. She grew to like Jewish and Arab cuisine. After graduating from CU, she studied law at Antioch School of Law. She lobbied Denver City Council, and the Colorado State Legislature on water issues, while working for Denver Water, and later investigated employment discrimination cases with the Colorado Civil Rights Division. Her passion for civil rights brought her to an event where she met and escorted Rosa Parks onto stage for a speaking event. She also had the opportunity to become acquainted with the youngest student from the Little Rock 9 students. Realizing that she had a knack for languages, she took several Spanish language classes. Desiree eventually returned to what she really loved, working with children. Her mother, sister, and son all became teachers. While she and her husband were raising their son Quinn, Desiree chose to work at Quinn’s elementary school as a paraprofessional and also tutored Spanish speaking children in after-school classes. Desiree loves working with children and enjoys their excitement when they are learning. Her hobbies include swimming and working out in the gym. Traveling domestically and abroad is also on her list of hobbies.
