Aya Turrubiates is the Third Grade Math teacher at Isabella Bird Community School. While this is Aya’s first year at Izzi B, she has been with Denver Public Schools since 2015 and could not be more excited to teach in the community that she grew up in. She began working in DPS as a Paraprofessional and most recently had the opportunity to teach Fifth Grade for the last four years. She is passionate about instilling the belief within her students, that one’s zip code does not define their success. She obtained her Bachelor’s degree in Human Development with a minor in Psychology from Metropolitan State University of Denver and her Master’s degree in Education with a concentration on Culturally and Linguistically Diverse Learners.
Outside of the classroom, she loves spending time with family and friends, being outdoors, and being pretending like she is a tourist by finding new places to explore and fall in love with. She also enjoys experiencing new cultures through traveling to new places and through her love of experimenting with new foods.
