Special Education

Born and raised in the deep south, John has been living in Denver since 2002, working with students since 2004, and joined the Isabella Bird family in 2022. Over the years, he has held positions as a paraprofessional, general education teacher, math interventionist, and special educator. He earned his Master’s of Education in Special Education at CU Denver and has over a decade of experience supporting students with additional needs. Whether John is working with students or teachers, he believes that it is his job to help others shine.

At home, you’ll find John spending time with his wife and three kids, gardening, or helping to take care of the family’s menagerie of dogs, chickens, guinea pigs, a snake, and a horse. But usually, you’ll find him following the hobby for which he is the most passionate – birding. Following the birds has taken him to remote locations and every corner of the state. After many years, he recently achieved personal goals of birding in each of Colorado’s 64 counties and identifying over 400 different avian species within the boundaries of Colorado. #birdnerd
