Skip started teaching at a Lab Preschool-The Children’s College on the Auraria Campus, working for Metro State and Community College of Denver. He mentored students in the Paraprofessional/Teaching Assistants program as well as taught preschool students.

He started his Denver Public School career at Smith Elementary, and taught with Rebecca Mercer at Ashley Elementary. He left the district for two years to work at Graland Country Day School, but jumped at the opportunity to return to DPS here at Izzi B.

From the top down, he feels respected and supported by our administration and he always enjoys talking with fellow teachers and paras. The students are kind and caring and building a classroom culture at the start of the year is something he always enjoys. Each year’s students bring new insight and ways to care for each other.

He has the honor of facilitating student’s educational journey and gets to sometimes show children information for the first time–plants that shoot their seeds out, fish from the midnight zone with lights that attract prey, etc.

He was a chef when he met his wife and still does the majority of cooking for his family. He enjoys smoking meats, pan-Asian food, and discovering new dishes and techniques. Other hobbies are making music; he plays guitar, bass and keys.
